Structural Design

Structural Innovations Engineering & Consulting, PC provides structural design engineering services for a broad spectrum of projects. Our resume of experience includes large commercial and industrial structures to residential projects, including multifamily complexes and single-family homes. Our staff of structural engineers has the experience and expertise to successfully complete your next project!

The following is a synopsis of the areas we serve and the types of projects we have executed:

Residential Structural Design

Residential construction, in particular multifamily construction, was one of the first markets to rebound after the Great Recession. Our engineers have worked on a number of multifamily projects constructed of both wood and post-tensioned concrete.

Residential Design

Structural Innovations has extensive experience in residential structural design for both single-family and multifamily projects. Our single-family home designs incorporate conventional construction methods, including basement, crawl space, and slab-on-grade foundations with wood-framed superstructures. For multifamily developments, we specialize in wood-framed structures supported by concrete mat foundations, ensuring durability and compliance with building codes.

Wood-Framed Residential Design

Wood-framed construction has exploded in recent years because it is a cost-effective, time-effective, and green alternative to achieving higher density residential complexes. The short lead time to acquire the materials necessary, along with the ability to quickly erect a wood-framed structure, contribute to the overall reduced construction time for a project. The ability to quickly bring a project to completion to take advantage of market conditions has driven wood to the forefront of mid-rise residential construction. A further benefit of wood construction is that it is often considered a green alternative to conventional steel and concrete structures. It is a well-known fact that trees absorb carbon during their growth cycles; this ability to absorb and store carbon and prevent it from being released into the atmosphere helps to reduce the carbon footprint of wood structures.

Structural Innovations’ expertise and experience with both concrete and wood-framed construction is well-suited for any residential project you may be considering.

Commercial Design

Structural Innovations brings extensive experience in commercial structural engineering, with projects ranging from single-story retail centers to multistory office buildings and hotel facilities. Our portfolio includes masonry and concrete retail structures, concrete tilt-up panels with steel bar joist roofs, steel-framed office buildings utilizing braced and moment frames, and hotels constructed with light-gauge stud-bearing walls supporting hollow-core concrete floor planks.

We pride ourselves on delivering high-quality structural engineering services throughout the entire project lifecycle. From early design collaboration to ensure the right structural system is selected, to site studies that capture critical data, we help clients make informed decisions—including value-engineering options that reduce costs without compromising quality.

As the engineer of record, we prepare detailed design specifications and drawings, coordinate across all disciplines, and actively participate during construction to maintain design intent and resolve issues promptly. Our goal is to ensure your project is completed on time, on budget, and to the highest standards of structural integrity.

Commercial Design

Our staff of structural engineers has designed a number of commercial design projects ranging from retail centers to office complexes to hotels. In the role of design engineer, we serve as the engineer of record, preparing design specifications and drawings to meet the project requirements. We work with our clients, starting in the initial planning stages of the project to select the appropriate structural systems and continue through the construction administration phase of the project.

Industrial Design

Heavy industrial design sites are unique and require a special understanding and awareness of the systems and processes in operation at the site. The load demands placed on structures from the operations of an industrial facility can be extreme, and it takes a structural engineer with a broad understanding of engineering principles to successfully design for these demands.

Industrial Design Engineers

Our structural engineers have worked with teams of other mechanical, electrical, and piping engineers to design facilities in the power, mining, and oil and gas market segments. Our structural designs have included foundations for equipment, foundations supporting rotating equipment, pipe racks, pipe supports in existing facilities, and access platforms required to service valves, instruments, etc. We understand no structural design is acceptable if it doesn’t service the needs of the men and women who have to work in and around it on a daily basis. Therefore, our structural engineers take a very active role in working with plant personnel to determine what their preferences are and ensure we incorporate them into the final design.

Structural Innovations has worked in a number of capacities. We have served as the consultant working directly with the owner, and we have worked with contractors in a design-build relationship to install heavy equipment. From the initial planning to start-up and commissioning, Structural Innovations will stay committed through all phases of your project.
